Overcome Negative Self Talk & Release Food Judgment

Hi friend, welcome to The Fit Flamingo Podcast. In this episode, I’m sharing the audio from a free, 5-day challenge I created called 5 Days to Food Freedom. Today’s training (Day 02!) will help you overcome negative self talk and break free from the judgment you feel with food without feeling overwhelmed or like you’re not enough.

Before we dive in, I wanted to share a bit of my own story because so much of my healing with food came when I learned how to trade in my negative self talk and critical self judgment for forgiveness, awareness, and self acceptance.

I had to learn how to love myself again, forgive myself for past food choices, and break free from that cycle of constantly eating a meal and then judging myself if that food gave me a stomach ache or if I broke out really bad the next day or felt like it was a meal I wasn’t “supposed” to eat.

Friend, your mindset will directly impact how you feel.

When you beat yourself up you keep yourself small.

And you know for me, I didn’t start seeing changes in my health until I made the decision to heal my mindset.

You may know that I really struggled with painful, cystic acne all through college and then a few years after graduating.

I blamed myself for looking the way I did. I felt so ugly in my own skin. I didn’t feel like I was worthy to show up in spaces. Literally it was so hard for me to go to work or events or social gatherings with my friends because I didn’t feel like I was enough.

Not only did I not feel confident in the way I looked, I was also experiencing a lot of physical pain. My skin was constantly itching and burning and I was experience a lot of stomach pain that I eventually came to learn was because of a leaky gut issue called SIBO. There was a point in time when everything I ate made my stomach hurt. I would get these sharp pains after eating meals, had bad bouts of brain fog, and felt a lot of joint pain. Some days I honestly felt completely miserable. And my self talk at that time was so hurtful.

After a while, I hit my breaking point. I felt like I tried everything I possibly could to get my acne and gut issues to go away. But nothing was working. I was miserable. I felt defeated and hopeless. So instead of doing more to find a solution, I decided to do less. I stopped dieting. I stopped taking all the supplements I was taking. And I decided to start loving myself for where I was and who I was in that moment. I started listening to the way I was talking to myself and started giving myself permission to try again.

Your words can either build you up or tear you down.

Learning how to build yourself up is something you learn through trial and error. The more you do it, the better you get.

And I’ll be honest, there are days when my self talk is really negative. But I go back to these tools that I’m about to share with you. I go back to what I know works. And I try again.

Food freedom isn’t about perfection.

It’s about letting yourself figure out what works for you and what doesn’t and giving yourself permission to grow and change and keep learning as you go.

Friend, you’re doing a really good job and I’m so excited to share this day 02 training with you. Don’t forget to take feel good action after you hear this episode.

If you want to see changes in your relationship with food you have to take feel good action.

I know you have what it takes. And friend, it’s time for you to build yourself up and break free from self judgment once and for all. Let’s dive on in to the training!
