Why I Never Weigh My Clients

So much of what makes The Fit Flamingo different than other fitness brands and gyms is that I don’t make weight loss the primary goal ever. Instead, I help my clients break free from the guilt and shame they feel around food and movement so they can be empowered to love and nourish their body with confidence.

Weight loss is usually a byproduct of the work we do together, but it’s never the main focus.

In Episode 45 of The Fit Flamingo Podcast, I share 3 reasons why I never weigh my clients. Click the links below or press play on the podcast player above. Or, keep reading for all the main points!

01. Your Weight Does Not Define You

Friend, you are more than a number on a scale.

So many of us feel the pressure to maintain a certain weight and live up to society’s ever-changing standard of beauty. We spend thousand of dollars on beauty treatments, makeup, and clothes, only to feel like we’re never enough. We spend hours in front of the mirror picking ourselves apart and even more time comparing ourselves to strangers on the internet (or to what we used to look like in high school).

As women, we’re constantly aware of our bodies, how we look, and how we think we’re being perceived by the people around us. We strive to shrink our bodies, doing anything we possibly can to fit in and be enough.

In almost every room we walk in, it feels like our physical appearance is the thing about us that matters most.

But here at The Fit Flamingo, I want you have a safe space to be fully yourself – a space where your weight isn’t the topic of every conversation. I want you to know that you are already enough and that how you look is not the most important thing about you.

You are more than your weight!

So when it comes to the work I do with my clients, I never want weight loss be the primary goal because it doesn’t capture the full essence of who you are.

The primary goal in our sessions together is to identify and heal the root cause of why you may be struggling to love your body and feel enough in your own skin. From there, we implement movement, nutrition, and self-love tools that help you feel empowered and safe within yourself.

When you learn to trust and forgive yourself, your health shifts in the most incredible way!

Instead of looking for ways to hide, shrink, or change the way you look, you feel empowered to say “yes” to the foods, habits, and goals that help you feel enough in your own skin.

02. Being at Your “Goal Weight” Doesn’t Automatically Make You Healthy

You could be at your “goal weight” and still feel out of balance mentally, emotionally, nutritionally, energetically, and spiritually.

When we make weight loss the primary goal, it’s easy to sacrifice how we feel in other areas.

For example, you might find yourself fearing food, cutting calories, or skipping meals altogether to lose or maintain weight. But friend, your body is worthy of love and nourishment, even when you feel like you don’t deserve it.

Another example could be that you get loads of compliments on your weight loss or physical appearance but on the inside, you’re experiencing painful feelings of depression or anxiety. Your mental health matters!

Or, you might love the way you look but struggle with things like brain fog, food sensitivities, chronic pain, or hormone imbalances below the surface. It’s easy to feel like those things don’t matter as much as looking good. But how you feel on the inside matters.

Instead of focusing on the outward appearance, I help my clients focus first on how they feel. We strive to find balance in all areas of health, not just the fitness and physical appearance side of things.

03. It’s More Empowering to Focus on The Inside First

Often, a client will come to me looking for a detailed nutrition or fitness plan that will help them know exactly what to do to lose weight and get healthy.

But instead of just telling them what to do, we dive deep to understand their relationship with food and movement.

It’s not enough to implement new habits and behaviors…

If you want to create long lasting change, you have to shift the way you think and feel about yourself and the world you live in.

This is the magic of 1 on 1 coaching!

In my coaching sessions with clients, we’re able to dive deep and heal the root of why you think and feel the way you do. After all, I’m not here to just tell you what to do. I want you to feel empowered to know what’s best for you and your body.

By focusing on the inside first, I’m able to help you heal your relationship with yourself so you can trust yourself and listen to your own intuition. As a result, you leave our sessions feeling safe to forgive yourself as you move through trauma, guilt, and shame and release any heavy experiences that no longer feel good to hold on to.

I’m here every step of the way to empower and equip you to build better habits, nourish your body, and feel enough in your own skin. It’s my hope that you always feel seen, valued, and loved beyond what you look like.

You are enough!

Hi, I’m Madison Deaton. As a personal trainer, nutrition and self-love coach, I focus on the inside first, helping you get to the root of why you think and feel the way you do. Then I use things like functional fitness, holistic nutrition, mindset and self-love tools to help you connect with yourself on a deeper level, see things from a new perspective, and unlearn habits that no longer serve you so you can take up space, step into your power, and become the woman of your dreams (friendly reminder: she has been YOU all along). Welcome to The Fit Flamingo! I’m so glad you’re here.
