Who says your relationship with food can’t be FUN!? Here are 3 things I’m doing in my own life right now to slow down, be present, and enjoy meals. I hope these tips help you feel good as you find small and simple ways to incorporate more fun into your relationship with food. You are doing an incredible job and I’m so proud of you for tuning into your health and wellbeing in this fun and approachable way!!
Feel Good Tip # 01 | Savor your food!!! Slow down. Breathe deep. Really taste and experience every bite!
Honestly sometimes you’ll realize how amazing food tastes. Other times you’ll think, “hey wait, this actually doesn’t taste very good!”
When you take time to savor food it feels like you’re on vacation. It feels like you carved out this sacred time to be present without rushing through the meal or moving on to the next thing. And if it’s true that we get to create our lives, then I want to create a life that feels like I’m on vacation every day! Slowing down to savor meals makes all the difference.
Feel Good Tip # 02 | Turn off any and all screens and share a meal with someone you love!
I’m super guilty of this but I actually love watching tv while I’m eating meals, especially when I’m working from home. It just gives me something to look forward to – a change of scenery if you will!
My husband and I are currently working on eating every meal at the table together, which is something I grew up doing and loving with my family! But when 2020 hit, we got into a bad habit of eating at the coffee table while watching our favorite show or movie. It became a fun way to celebrate the end of a long day and enjoy dinner with a good laugh. But lately it’s starting to feel more like a cop-out than a fun use of time.
Now, it feels more fun to unplug and be present with one another. When we’re sitting at the dinner table with no distractions, I can actually taste my food and time seems to slow down! It feels stress free and enjoyable to have a fun conversation with the man I love without the evening rushing by in a Netflix blur.
Feel Good Tip # 03 | Try something new that feels fun to you (not just what other people think is fun).
It’s time to finally print out the recipe you pined to Pinterest but never got around to making! Book a reservation at the restaurant you’ve been dying to try. Or order take-out from your favorite small business down the road. Find what feels fun to you and in the words of Nike, just do it!
Make it happen, even if only in a small way.
Which feel good tip will you try today?
I encourage you to take feel good action because when you show up for yourself, you build confidence.
I’m sending you so much love and I’m in your corner cheering you on.
