A Lil Q&A!

Hi y’all. I’ve had a hard time wanting to post today in light of the Las Vegas shooting. My heart has been breaking all day knowing how many lives have been lost and shattered and broken as a result of last night’s violent act. I’m sending up prayer after prayer for those affected and cannot imagine the pain and loss so many people must be feeling…

I was going to share this fun Q&A that my long time bestie asked me to write for her blog back in March. And while I no longer live in Austin and some of the work info is a little outdated, I thought it would still be a fun way for you to get to know me better. You can read it below. But before you do, I hope you can take a moment to pray and be grateful for the people in your life. I’m reminded at how short this life truly is and how quickly I can take today’s breath for granted. Vegas, you are in my heart and prayers.

Who is Madison? Tell us about her? Hi!! I’m Madison. First things first, you should know that I have a tiny carrot tattoo on my ankle. So I guess that makes me a little bit (or a lot a bit) quirky and a big lover of veggies 🙂 I’m 23 and a recent graduate from The University of Texas at Austin. I have officially entered into the adult world and am currently teaching fitness classes at UT Get FIT and am working as a speed/agility coach at a youth sport performance gym in Cedar Park. When I’m not training, I am writing songs on my guitar or playing acoustic gigs throughout Austin.

What inspired you to want to become a personal trainer? From a young age, I always knew I wanted to study something science related in college. Having played basketball my whole life, Kinesiology seemed like the perfect fit. All in all, I just really love people. It brings me so much joy to get to move and exercise with people. It’s incredible how much people open up to you when you take the time to get to know them within the walls of a gym.

What’s a typical day like for you? My favorite thing about my work is that I get to be my own boss. My day-to-day schedule varies quite a bit but I always like to start my day with a bowl of fruit + cashew yogurt and a homemade version of butter coffee. Have you ever tried it!? It’s the yummiest thing! Most days, I’m on campus by 8am to teach a class or two. Then, I have a break where I can program workouts for upcoming clients, study new exercise material, get errands done, or workout myself. I also use this time to meal prep and make a dinner that I can eat as soon as I come home from part II of my work day! By 2pm, I’m hitting the road to train in Cedar Park and am home by 8pm. I feel lucky to come home to my roommates, who happen to be three of my closest friends. We always try to squeeze some quality time into the night, even if it just means eating dinner and watching Netflix together.

Tell us about your dream job. What would it be? Writing children’s books! Seriously. I would love to write and illustrate books that talk about the importance of food and movement.

Guitar is an instrument you grew up playing and fell in love with, if you could instantly play another instrument, what would you pick? Why? I actually played cello long before I ever picked up a guitar. To this day, it is hands down my favorite instrument in all the world. I recently brought my cello back from my parent’s house and have been hoping to start taking lessons again soon. I gotta get on that!

If you won $1000, but could only keep half, what would you do with the rest? Road trip on me!! Everyone is invited!

What is your greatest fear? Why? Wow, good question – I fear finding myself in a place where I got everything I wanted on the outside but am completely empty, lonely, or lost on the inside.

What is your greatest strength? Why? I care about people and feel things really deeply. I think that’s why I love songwriting and personal training. I get to be vulnerable with people every single day and in return, people are vulnerable with me. It’s cool to connect with and know people in a deeper way because of that.

What is your greatest weakness? Why? Gosh I’m so hard on myself! And sometimes (most times) it’s really hard for me to let go and let myself have fun. Oh well 😉

What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not working? I’ve turned into quite the reader lately. Growing up, I was the kid who bought those crafty build-you-own robot type toys whenever we had a school bookstore sale. My to-do list was always a little too long for me to let myself sit down and read. But now I crave the stillness that reading brings.

What channels are you currently following and continuously watching on youtube? I’m such a foodie. My favorite food bloggers right now are Minimalist Baker, Shut The Kale Up, and Joyous Health.

If you had to eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be? Can we count chips + guacamole as one thing!? I recently found that I have a lot of food allergies (think no dairy, gluten, AND eggs!! crazy right?). Since cutting all that out, tortilla chips have been the only tried and true food that I can eat without worrying if I’ll be sick after eating it. I can’t stop won’t stop with the guac.

On what do you spend the most on: clothes, accessories, perfume, or anything else? The biggest chunk of my budget goes towards groceries! I love trying new recipes and Whole Foods is my happy place.

Where do you see yourself in 25 years? Woah, I’ll be 48! In 25 years, I see myself raising a family in a home that is always filled with good food and good company. I would love to own a women’s only gym and be in a budding place with my career. I can’t wait to see all the places I will travel to and look forward to knowing all the people I will one day meet along the way.

Who is the most influential person in your life? Why? Cheesy, I know! But my parents are my best friends. My dad is the greatest, kindest, and most serving man I have ever known. And did I mention he’s a total baller!? He owns an environmental consulting firm and has taught me the most incredible life and business lessons that I will forever cherish. My mom is everyone’s best friend. She’s a counselor and personal trainer and gets to the heart of every single person she meets. I want to be just like her when I grow up. Hi mom, hi dad!
