Monday Motivation: You can’t get results for the work you don’t do.

You can’t get results for the work you don’t do. @justtrain

One of my favorite trainers said this line in his Instagram story and it totally flipped a switch for me. And boy did I need it. I recently moved back to Dallas after spending almost four years in Austin, finishing college (hook ’em!!) and working as a personal trainer and group fitness instructor. I was surrounded by such an incredible community of people in the health & fitness industry — people who were always trying to learn more and grow themselves; people who were quick to take me in under their wing and teach me everything they knew/know. It’s easy to see results in that setting. Always picking up new tricks, always having people to get advice from, always working and grinding.

But now I’m back in the city I grew up in, with more on my plate than ever. And it’s not the volume of things-to-do but it’s the variety of all the different tasks that makes this next season of life so new and challenging (and exciting!!).

My dad recently started a new environmental company and I have been working part time as his office manager/marketing girl in efforts to better learn how to run a successful business. Aside from that, I started taking voice lessons again and play gigs as much as possible to continue pushing myself as a singer & songwriter. I also just started this blog and am working on opening my own fitness studio in the spring of this coming year in Downtown Plano and am having to rebuild my new client base from scratch! I’m even taking a course to become a nutrition coach! And that doesn’t even begin to cover all the other *seemingly* random things I want to do before the year ends! Doesn’t it seem like I’m a little all over the place?? Haha, maybe I am!! But in all honestly, I feel the most me when I’m pursuing all these different passions — little by little, day by day. And I’m convinced that one day, all the little investments will add up, the puzzle pieces will connect, and I will find the thing I was put on this earth to do. Heck – I may have already found it!??

But back to this quote! The timing of it couldn’t have been more perfect. I was beginning to wonder if it was all worth it — wondering what it would feel like to sleep in and take the week off… wondering how little effort I could put in to still see results… feeling inadequate… I could go on and on! But I think you get the picture 🙂

It’s good to dream and hope and wish for things. And those things are desperately needed as we plan and set goals and even as we look for inspiration on the days when things feel the most challenging and sacrificial. But at the end of the day, your work will always speak louder than your words. And yes, we need to find balance and have fun along the way but you gotta be real with yourself!

The barriers you face — whether they are financial, emotional, physical, and/or mental — are so so so real. We all have things & thoughts and insecurities & fears that block our progress and keep us from becoming who we want most to be. If there’s anything I’ve learned in the challenges I’ve faced it’s that often times, that barrier/block/wall/obstacle/that thing in your freakin’ way doesn’t change. The things that were hard for me four years ago are still hard for me. My deepest insecurities and heartbreaks are still there like a constant shadow always lingering. And truth is they may always be there.

But I have to sober up and ask myself: am I working in the direction of my dreams? Am I actually putting in the work and doing the things that are going to get me where I want to be, despite the barriers!? Am I determined to stay on course — even when it feels too hard to be consistent and show up for myself?

I want to LIVE my dream every single day. Even if it’s in the smallest, subtlest way. I want to be the absolute best I can be — mind, body, and soul — so I can help you and others and my family and my friends feel and be their best too. That’s all I really want to do and be in life. Whether it’s through my music or fitness or a combination of the two, the overarching goal is the same. I want people to feel seen and heard and I want to use the tough and hard things in my life to connect with the tough and hard things in yours.

Hearing this quote was a good reality check for me. I hope it can be for you too!

What work are you putting in? Are you seeing the results you want to see? I know it doesn’t happen overnight. But it can happen little by little, if you start today. So go and do it and be it and make it happen.

Hard at work,

Madison
